Howl’s Magic Business and Its Influence in Howl’s Moving Castle Novel by Diana Wynne Jones: Marxism Perspective

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi dampak negatif komodifikasi sihir terhadap konsumen, produsen, dan sihir itu sendiri dalam Howl's Moving Castle karya Dianna Wynne Jones. Narasi dan dialog dari novel tersebut dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan Marxis dalam metode penelitian kepustakaan. Tujuannya adalah untuk menunjukkan korelasi komodifikasi dan setiap orang serta objek yang terlibat di dalamnya. Tidak hanya itu, penelitian ini juga membuktikan dampak dari kapitalisasi kekuatan supranatural yang kuat yang biasanya tidak didistribusikan di pasar. Dengan menggunakan komodifikasi Karl Marx, fetisisme komoditas, dan teori-teori lainnya, makalah ini menerapkan analisis tekstual. Makalah ini berfokus pada adegan-adegan tentang aktivitas transaksional, persepsi konsumen tentang komodifikasi sihir, dan bukti eksploitasi dan keterasingan pekerja. Temuan-temuan ini membuka perspektif baru tentang dampak komodifikasi melalui novel-novel sihir dan fantasi. Penelitian ini menyoroti dampak yang lebih dalam dari aktivitas ekonomi, yang orang-orang pikirkan hanya tentang membeli dan menjual. Penelitian ini juga membuka wawasan baru tentang kegunaan analisis ini dan korelasinya dengan dunia kita. Kata kunci: Pendekatan Marxis, komodifikasi, komoditas, fetisisme komoditas, sihir.

This research explores the negative impacts of magic commodification to customers, producers, and magic itself in Howl's  Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones. The narration and dialogue from the novel are analyzed using marxist approach in library research methods. It aims to show the correlation of commodification and every person and the object that is involved in it. It also proves the effects of capitalizing a mighty supernatural power that is not usually distributed in the market. Using Karl Marx's commodification, commodity fetishism, and other theories, this paper applies textual analysis. It focuses on scenes of transactional activities, customers' perceptions of magic commodification, and the evidence of the exploitation and alienation of workers. These findings open a new perspective on the impacts of commodification through magic and fantasy novels. It highlights the more profound impacts of economic activities, which people think only about buying and selling. It also opens a new insight about the usefulness of this analysis and its correlation with our world.
