Penerapan teknologi Three Tier pada pengembangan sistem informasi akademik di UMS

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), bertujuan untuk membangun arsitektur three-tier yang mampu melaksanakan sejumlah layanan sehingga akan tercipta suatu sistem informasi dengan banyak aplikasi yang dijalankan yang dapat diakses oleh banyak client pada saat yang sama dan mampu mengelola data secara akurat, selain itu mudah dirawat dan dikembangkan untuk masa-masa yang akan datang sesuai kebutuhan. Aplikasi yang dikembangkan pada penelitian ini adalah Sistem Informasi Akademik di UMS, dan sebagai pilot project-nya adalah Fakultas Teknik. Konfigurasi sistem yang digunakan adalah standard client-server dengan client maupun server berjalan di platform Windows. Perangkat lunak dibangun dengan Borland Delphi (bahasa pemrograman visual berbasis bahasa PASCAL) dan sistem basis data yang diterapkan adalah SQL Server. Dari pengujian terhadap sistem yang dijalankan pada locallhost, yaitu dengan menjalankan aplikasi client yang cukup banyak (pernah diuji paling banyak 40 client untuk aplikasi KRS Online) dan pengamatan yang dilakukan yaitu pada saat yang sama seluruh client melakukan pengisian KRS untuk jurusan elektro, saat yang lain seluruh client mengisi KRS untuk jurusan yang berbeda-beda. Hasil penelitian mrnunjukkan belum terlihat kesalahan yang terjadi pada sistem terutama terkait dengan data yang dimunculkan/diinginkan . Selain itu telah dilakukan pengembangan terhadap aplikasi, yaitu dengan menambah beberapa fitur pada aplikasi yang sebelumnya fitur tersebut belum ada, dan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan tersebut mudah

This research is conducted at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS). It is aimed to set up three tier architecture which is available to do several services so that it will create system of information with many operate application and many clients will be able to access at the same time and also to manage it accurately. Besides, it is easy to maintain as well as to develop it in the future according to the necessities. The improved application in this research is an Academic Information System at UMS, and the pilot project is Technique Faculty. The system of configuration used in this research is standard client-server with client as well as server runs in windows platform. Software is setup with Borland Delphi (visual programming language based on PASCAL Language) and the applied data basic system is SQL Server. From the test of system which is done in locallhost, by running many client application (it was ever subjected to a test 40 clients for the application of KRS Online) and the observation is done when all clients fill KRS for electric faculty at the same time, while all clients fill KRS for different faculty at the other time. The result of research shows that there is no mistake occurs in the system especially in relation with the showing up data. Besides, it has been done the development of the application, by adding several unexisting features in the previous application, and the result of the research shows that the addition is easily done without overhaul all components in the application.
