This study aims to determine how various necropolitical actions can cause necroecology or environmental damage, as well as resistance to in Dian Purnomo’s nove entitled Perempuan yang Menunggu di Lorong Menuju Laut. This novel tells the story of mining in Sangihe, which not only causes environmental damage but also the loss of indigenous peoples’ living space. This research is descriptive and qualitative, using Achillle Mbembe’s book Nekcropolitics as the formal object and Mieke Bal’s theory of focalisation as the supporting theory.
The result of the research show that most of environmental damage that occurs is caused by the central role of capital, which consists of a coalition between companies and the state through various extractive projects and activities. Through a focus on Mirah, a worker assigned to Sangihe, she describes how necroecology is actually the end result of a series of previous processes. The processes include the seizure of indigenous peoples’ land, violations of indigenous peoples rights, and the suppression of enviornmental institutions, Even “neglect” of various small-scale mining operations. In the process, the state an companies often resort to violence, terror, war, and even hostility. This triggers resistance from the community, both pshysically and legally, as well as through various customs and cultures. Additionally the belief of the Sangihe peopeles that natural disasters are God’s way of communicating with those who have sinned aslo forms part of the resistance in this novel
