Penelitian ini berasal dari adanya gap antara asumsi perubahan dan perubahan faktual dari berbagai proyek pembangunan infrastruktur. Tujuan peneliti adalah untuk mencari tahu apakah gap tersebut juga ada dalam pembangunan Bandar Udara Yogyakarta International Airport dan alasan mengapa gap tersebut mungkin terjadi. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan fokus pada wawancara narasumber masyarakat sekitar Bandara YIA. Selain itu, peneliti juga mewawancarai narasumber terkait lainnya dan menganalisis dokumen-dokumen dan sumber berita tentang Bandara YIA. Peneliti menemukan bahwa asumsi perubahan dari pembangunan Bandara YIA kebanyakan sudah sesuai dengan perubahan yang terjadi, namun masih ada beberapa aspek yang belum sesuai. Hal tersebut dikarenakanan proses perencanaan yang belum mengantisipasi perubahan-perubahan tersebut.
This research is partly-inspired by the existence of a gap in other cases of infrastructure planning between the expected changes to the nearby region and the actual change that happens. The focus of this research is on the case of Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo, DI Yogyakarta. This research aims to find out if such a gap also exists in the planning of this project and analyzing the cause of it. The majority of data analyzed in this research comes from interviews with various relevant sources. From individuals who live near the airport, business owners, a government official and the General Manager of Yogyakarta International Airport. This research also analyzes the Feasibility Study of the airport as well as various relevant documents and sources. This research will then compare the expected and actual changes. These changes are split into four categories of analysis. The categories are spatial changes, demography changes, social and cultural changes, and economic changes. After further analysis, it turns out most of the changes expected to happen during the planning phase are in-line with the actual changes caused by Yogyakarta International Airport. However there are still a number of changes that were not accounted for during the planning process. This research deducts that this is caused by a planning process that did not take those changes into account. Therefore, there is a need for future infrastructure planning projects to expand their scope to account for more possible changes.
