Peran Perceived Social Support terhadap Help-Seeking Attitudes pada Mahasiswa dengan Self-Concealment sebagai Mediator

Tingkat masalah
kesehatan mental pada mahasiswa yang tinggi tidak serta merta mendorong mereka
untuk memiliki sikap dan pandangan dalam mencari bantuan (help-seeking
attitudes) yang positif. Sementara itu, sikap negatif dalam mencari bantuan
dapat mengakibatkan mahasiswa memiliki intensi dan perilaku dalam mencari
bantuan yang minim. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur peran perceived
social support terhadap help-seeking attitudes dengan
self-concealment sebagai mediator pada mahasiswa di Indonesia. Penelitian
ini menggunakan metode survei dengan tiga instrumen penelitian, yaitu Attitudes
Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help-Short Form (ATSPPH-SF), Skala
Penyembunyian Diri, dan Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support
(MSPSS). Partisipan yang didapatkan pada penelitian ini berjumlah 192 mahasiswa
aktif dengan rentang usia 18-24 tahun. Hasil analisis mediasi GLM menunjukkan perceived
social support dapat berperan positif secara signifikan terhadap help-seeking
attitudes (? = 0,32; p <.001). Namun, self-concealment
tidak dapat memediasi secara signifikan pada peran perceived social support terhadap
help-seeking attitudes (? = -0,04; p>.001). Analisis
tambahan yang dilakukan juga menunjukkan bahwa dimensi friends atau
teman pada perceived social support memiliki peran positif pada help-seeking
attitudes secara signifikan (? = 0,21; p <.001), sedangkan
dimensi family atau keluarga memiliki peran negatif secara signifikan
pada self-concealment (? = -0,26; p<.001). Penelitian
ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesadaran bagi institusi pendidikan mengenai
masalah help-seeking pada mahasiswa yang memiliki masalah kesehatan
mental.
The high rate of mental
health problems in college students do not necessarily encourage them to have
positive help-seeking attitudes. Meanwhile, negative attitudes in seeking
help can result in students having low intentions and behaviors in seeking
help. This study aims to measure the role of perceived social support on
help-seeking attitudes with self-concealment as a mediator in Indonesian
college students. This study used a survey method with three research
instruments, namely Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological
Help-Short Form (ATSPPH-SF), Skala Penyembunyian DIri, and Multidimensional
Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The participants obtained in this
study were 192 active college students with an age range of 18-24 years. The
results of GLM mediation analysis showed that perceived social support can play
a significantly positive role on help-seeking attitudes (? = 0.32; P <.001).
However, self-concealment cannot significantly mediate the role of perceived
social support on help-seeking attitudes (? = -0.04; P>.001). Additional
analysis that was conducted also showed that the friends dimension of perceived
social support had a significantly positive role on help-seeking attitudes (? =
0.21; P <.001), while the family dimension had a significantly negative role
on self-concealment (? = -0.26; P <.001). This study is expected to raise
awareness for educational institutions regarding help-seeking issues in college
students with mental health problems.
