Laboratorium Parasitologi Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Linognathus sp. is an
ectoparasite that belongs to the group of blood-sucking lice. Infestation by Linognathus
sp. can contribute to a decline in livestock productivity and health,
particularly in goats (Capra aegagrus hircus). This study aims to
identify the presence of Linognathus sp. ectoparasites in goats (Capra
aegagrus hircus) in the Mlati and Sentolo districts, Special Region of
Yogyakarta, and to determine the relationship between sex and age of goats with
ectoparasite infestation in goats. A total of 7 positive Linognathus sp.
ectoparasite samples were manually collected from 91 goat samples in farms in
the Mlati and Sentolo districts, and the ectoparasite samples were identified
at the Parasitology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Gadjah Mada
University. Identification was carried out through morphological observation
using a microscope with 100–400x objective magnification. The results showed a
prevalence of Linognathus sp. infestation of 8%, with a distribution
based on sex of 4% in male goats and 10% in female goats. Based on age, the
prevalence was 0% for goats under 1 year, 10% for those aged 1–2 years, and 10%
for those older than 2 years. Statistical analysis using the Chi-Square test
showed a P-value (<0>Linognathus sp. ectoparasite infestation rate in goats
in the Mlati and Sentolo districts and may serve as a basis for effective
parasitic control to improve livestock health and farm productivity.
