Hegemoni Maskulinitas dalam Novel Le malheur de vivre karya Ndèye Fatou Kane

Hubungan yang rumit antara identitas, kekuasaan, dan gender sering kali disoroti oleh karya-karya sastra yang mencerminkan realitas sosial pada zamannya. Dalam hal ini, Ndèye Fatou Kane melalui novel Le malheur de vivre yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2014 menelaah dan memberikan pemahaman mengenai faktor sosial budaya yang memengaruhi berbagai persoalan gender, terutama hegemoni maskulinitas di Senegal. Tokoh utama dalam novel ini, Sakina Bâ dan Ousmane Wane, diceritakan menjalin kasih dengan maksud terselubung dari Ousmane untuk meraih ambisi personalnya. Peneliti melakukan riset untuk mengungkapkan dampak dari hegemoni maskulinitas terhadap pelaku dominasi dan terhadap pihak yang mengalami subordinasi dalam novel Le malheur de vivre. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori hegemoni maskulinitas dari Raewyn Connell melalui tiga struktur dasar gender: relasi kuasa, relasi produksi, dan kateksis. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan dampak yang cukup signifikan dari hegemoni maskulinitas terhadap para tokoh utama. Hal ini disebabkan dominasi yang dilakukan oleh tokoh Ousmane menguatkan keberlangsungan hegemoni maskulinitas yang menempatkan tokoh Sakina pada posisi subordinasi.

The complex relationship between identity, power and gender is often highlighted by literary works that reflect the social realities of their time. In this case, Ndèye Fatou Kane through the novel Le malheur de vivre published in 2014 examines and provides an understanding of the socio-cultural factors that influence various gender issues, especially the hegemony of masculinity in Senegal. The protagonists of the novel, Sakina Bâ and Ousmane Wane, are said to be in love with Ousmane's ulterior motives to achieve his personal ambitions. Author conducted research to reveal the impact of the hegemony of masculinity on the perpetrators of domination and on those who experience subordination in the book Le malheur de vivre. This research uses Raewyn Connell's theory of the hegemony of masculinity through three basic gender structures: power relations, production relations, and cathexis. The results of this study show the significant impact of the hegemony of masculinity on the main characters. This is caused by the dominance exercised by Ousmane's character strengthening the continuity of the hegemony of masculinity which places Sakina's character in a subordinate position.
