Flourishing sebagai Mediator Peran Work Engagement terhadap Parent-Child Relationship

Hubungan antara orang tua dan anak memainkan peran penting dalam perkembangan psikologis anak, namun keterlibatan orang tua dalam dunia kerja sering kali membatasi kualitas hubungan tersebut. Berdasarkan pendekatan work-family enrichment, pengalaman positif di tempat kerja—yang dapat terindikasi dari tingkat work engagement—berpotensi memperkaya kehidupan keluarga jika disertai dengan kesejahteraan psikologis yang memadai, salah satunya melalui flourishing. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji peran langsung work engagement terhadap hubungan orang tua-anak serta peran tidak langsungnya melalui flourishing. Penelitian kuantitatif ini menggunakan tiga instrumen, yaitu Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9 (Schaufeli &  Bakker , 2004), Flourishing Scale (Diener dkk., 2010), dan Parent-Child Relationship Questionnaire (Furman & Giberson, 1995), selanjutnya dianalisis dengan Structural Equation Model (SEM) menggunakan aplikasi SPSS AMOS setelah mendapatkan data dari 111 partisipan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa work engagement tidak berperan langsung secara signifikan terhadap sebagian besar dimensi hubungan orang tua-anak, namun berpengaruh negatif signifikan terhadap dimensi power assertion. Sementara itu, flourishing terbukti secara signifikan memediasi hubungan antara work engagement dan seluruh dimensi hubungan orang tua-anak, yang mencakup warmth, personal relationship, disciplinary warmth, possessiveness, dan power assertion. Temuan ini dapat menjadi dasar bagi orang tua untuk terus menjaga keseimbangan antara tuntutan pekerjaan dan pemenuhan kebutuhan emosional diri, sehingga tercipta keadaan flourishing yang berdampak positif pada hubungan dengan anak. Selain itu, temuan ini juga bermanfaat bagi organisasi dalam merancang kebijakan untuk meningkatkan work engagement karyawan.

The relationship between parents and children plays a crucial role in the psychological development of children. However, parental involvement in the workforce often limits the quality of these relationships. Based on the work-family enrichment approach, positive work experiences—indicated by the level of work engagement—have the potential to enrich family life when accompanied by adequate psychological well-being, one of which is flourishing. This study aims to examine the direct role of work engagement on the parent-child relationships and its indirect role through flourishing. This quantitative research uses three instruments: the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9 (Schaufeli & Bakker, 2004), the Flourishing Scale (Diener et al., 2010), and the Parent-Child Relationship Questionnaire (Furman & Giberson, 1995), and is analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) with SPSS AMOS software after collecting data from 111 participants. The results show that work engagement does not significantly directly affect most dimensions of parent-child relationships, but it has a significant negative effect on the power assertion dimension. Meanwhile, flourishing significantly mediates the relationship between work engagement and all dimensions of parent-child relationship, including warmth, personal relationship, disciplinary warmth, possessiveness, and power assertion. These findings can serve as a foundation for parents to continuously maintain a balance between work demands and fulfilling their emotional needs, thereby fostering a state of flourishing that positively impacts their relationship with their children. Additionally, these findings are valuable for organizations in designing policies aimed at enhancing employee work engagement.
