Elderly patients with diabetes mellitus often exhibit poor glycemic control and impaired cognitive function, necessitating specialized treatment management initiated by efforts to improve knowledge, which may help enhance glycemic control. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of pharmacist intervention through the use of a Buku Edukasi dan Monitoring Mandiri (BEMM) on the knowledge and fasting blood glucose levels of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The study subjects were T2DM patients aged ?60 years, consisting of 54 respondents in the intervention group at Ngemplak I Public Health Center and 55 respondents in the control group at Sleman Public Health Center. The study was conducted from November 2024 to March 2025. The instruments used included the validated BEMM and the Diabetes Knowledge Test (DKT) to assess knowledge. Data analysis was carried out using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon test.
The results showed that following the intervention, the intervention group experienced an increase in knowledge level (?±SD = 1.76±2.32) with a significance value of p=0.000 (p<0 xss=removed p=0.000>
