The study was conducted from December 2022 to May 2024, involving pharmacists who provided pharmaceutical services for pediatric diarrhea drugs in pharmacies in the greater Malang area and met the inclusion criteria. One pharmacist represented each pharmacy as a research sample. The research stages include identifying needs through observational studies, application development using a qualitative approach, application testing to ensure functionality using a qualitative approach, and implementing the intervention model using the quasi-experimental method. The application's effectiveness was evaluated on 76 respondents per group to assess the impact of the application on pharmacists' knowledge and counseling profiles related to pediatric diarrhea therapy management. Data analysis to determine the effectiveness of the application using the Mann-Whitney test.
Overall, 68.35% of pharmacists in the early phase study had a low level of knowledge, and not all pharmacists extracted drug information and provided complete information to simulated patients. However, the implementation of the android-based pharmacist intervention model for treating childhood diarrhea and its prevention under 'Edinatek: Edukasi Diare Anak oleh Apoteker' significantly increased pharmacists' knowledge (p=0.000), reassuring us of the application's effectiveness. It improved pharmacists' pharmaceutical services related to the therapeutic management of childhood diarrhea and its prevention, including extraction of drug information (p=0.000), provision of therapy recommendations (p=0.000), and complete drug information (p=0.000).
This study demonstrates that the application-based intervention not only effectively improves pharmacists' knowledge and the quality of pharmaceutical services related to pediatric diarrhea therapy but also has the potential to become a transformative and innovative health education solution.
