Apar Tourism Village in Pariaman City holds significant potential as a leading tourist destination but faces various sustainability challenges, including environmental degradation, declining infrastructure quality, institutional conflict, and a drop in tourist numbers. This study aims to evaluate the sustainability level of Apar Tourism Village through six key dimensions—environmental, economic, socio-cultural, institutional, infrastructure, and technological—by focusing on stakeholders' perspectives, particularly in tourism governance. The method used is Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) with the Rap-Tourism approach to calculate the sustainability index and identify key attributes influencing long-term sustainability.
The analysis reveals that the overall sustainability index of Apar Tourism Village is 48.84, placing it in the "less sustainable" category. Three dimensions are considered moderately sustainable—environmental (61.07), socio-cultural (52.79), and infrastructure (54.44)—while the others remain less sustainable, namely economic (46.76), institutional (34.54), and technological (43.46). Leverage analysis identifies several critical attributes influencing sustainability, such as waste management, sources of livelihood, tourism security, partnerships among stakeholders, road access, and internet services. The MDS model shows high validity, with a stress value ranging from 0.14 to 0.16 and an R² of 0.94. Monte Carlo simulation confirms the robustness of the model, with less than 2?viation and a 98% confidence level.
This study concludes that the institutional dimension plays a critical role and significantly affects other dimensions, making integrated and participatory governance the key to achieving holistic tourism village sustainability. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for formulating community-based, collaborative, and long-term strategies and policies for sustainable rural tourism development.
