PERKEMBANGAN KOLONISASI DI METRO, 1935-1941

Penelitian ini membahas tentang proses serta perkembangan kolonisasi di Metro yang merupakan ibukota dari wilayah kolonisasi Sukadana. Wilayah Metro berawal dari lahan kosong milik masyarakat adat, hingga akhirnya diserahkan kepada pemerintah kolonial untuk dijadikan pemukiman kolonis dari Jawa. Sebagai wilayah yang baru dibuka, pemerintah kolonial perlu melakukan upaya agar para kolonis dapat memulai hidupnya di tempat yang baru. Permasalahan tersebut menjadi topik utama dalam penelitian ini, yang ditulis dengan mengumpulkan sumber-sumber primer, seperti arsip foto yang diperoleh dari ANRI dan KITLV, surat kabar serta catatan yang diakses dari Delpher. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menggunakan sumber sekunder, yaitu buku-buku yang diperoleh dari perpustakaan UGM, Google Cendekia, J-Stor, dan sebagainya. 

Berdasarkan sumber-sumber tersebut, ditemukan bahwa desa inti Trimurjo menjadi pusat administrasi, sebelum Metro ditetapkan menjadi ibukota kolonisasi Sukadana. Metro yang awalnya hanya berupa bedeng, kemudian mengalami proses pengkotaan. Pemerintah kolonial mulai membangun berbagai perumahan, kantor, serta fasilitas publik lainnya. Begitu pula dengan kehidupan para kolonis yang juga semakin berkembang, berawal dari menggarap sawah milik orang lain, setelahnya dapat memiliki lahan sendiri bahkan pedagang produk beras mulai hadir. Perkembangan kolonisasi di Metro ini membutuhkan upaya yang sangat besar, baik dari pemerintah kolonial maupun para kolonis itu sendiri.

This study discusses the process and development of colonization in Metro, the capital of Sukadana colonization area. The Metro area began as an empty land owned by indigenous people, until finally it was handed over to the colonial government to be used as a settlement for colonists from Java. As a newly opened area, the colonial governmment needed to make efforts so that the colonists couled start their lives in a new place. This problem is the main topic in this study, which is written by collecting primary sources, such as photo archives obtained from ANRI adn KITLV, newspaper and notes accessed from Delpher. In addition, this study also uses secondary sources, namely books obtained from the UGM library, Google Scholar, J-Stor, and so on.

Based on these sources, it was found that the core village of Trimurjo became administrative center, before Metro was designated as the capital ode the Sukadana colonization. Metro, which was initially just a shack, then underwent an urbanization process. The colonial governement began to build various housing, offices, and other public facilities. Likewise, the lives of the colonists also continued to develop, starting from working on other people's rice fields, after which they were able to have their own land and ven rice traders began to appear. The development of colonization in Metro requires enormous efforts, both from the colonial government and the colonists themselves.
