ABSTRACT
The adsorption studies of Ni2+ ion with alginate magnetite nanoparticles have been carried out. The purpose of this study is to synthesize alginate magnetite nanoparticles as an adsorbent to adsorb Ni2+ ion, analyze the effect of pH, adsorbent mass, contact time and the initial concentration of Ni2+ ion on the ability of alginate magnetite nanoparticles to adsorb Ni2+. This research was performed by synthesizing alginate magnetite nanoparticles with co-precipitation method. Nanoparticles were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM and TEM. Ni2+ ion concentration before and after adsorption were determined by absorbance test using AAS.
The result from this study is alginate magnetite nanoparticles with average diameter size of 12 nm and adsorption capacity of 1.022 mg/g at optimum condition, specifically at mass of 0.05 g, pH of 5, contact time of 30 min and initial Ni2+ ion concentration of 8 mg/L. The ability of pure and Ni2+ ions adsorbed into alginate magnetite nanoparticles shows a moderate category against E. coli bacteria. The presence of Ni2+ ions adsorbed in alginate magnetite nanoparticles can increase the ability of alginate magnetite nanoparticles as an antibacterial E. Coli.
