The level of tuak (traditional alcoholic drink from fermented sap of palm tree) drinking behavior in the Balinese community is reasonably high. This will have an impact on the youth, particularly junior secondary students. To overcome this problem an effort needs to be made to develop a health promotion media to prevent the drinking behavior among the youth. This media is in the form of tape recorder. The aim of this study was to know whether a tape recorder could be used as a promotion media and the students response on the use of tape recorder and to develop the health promotion media in the form of tape recorder. This study was a descriptive study using a qualitative method. The qualitative method was used to describe the opinions of the students and the informants. The subjects were the students of SMPN I Singaraja who were selected purposively who consisted of 12 students and the informants were selected purposively too and consisted of culture scholars, practitioners of media and junior secondary school teachers. Based on the results of the study, it is found that the tape recorder can be used as the promotion media. To be more effective the recording should be played in various media. So far there has not been a special health promotion to prevent the behavior of tuak drinking among the youth. The students response on the use of tape recorder shows that they agreed on the use of the use of the tape recorder as a health promotion media. The result of the health promotion media development in the form of cassette recording which had been revised is better than that produced before. The form of the message, the language of instruction and the music that had been revised have been in accordance with what was desired by the informants and the students. The cassette recording that had been developed is effective to be used as the health promotion media among the youth, particularly the students of SMPN I Singaraja
