Triangle of Sadness: Representasi Kapitalisme di Era Masyarakat Modern

Logika kapitalisme bergeser dari kapitalisme klasik pada era industrial ke late capitalism (kapitalisme akhir) era modern. Menggunakan pendekatan Popular Culture and World Politics (PCWP), tesis ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana hierarki sosial dan perubahannya menopang kapitalisme dan bagaimana proses ini direpresentasikan dalam film Triangle of Sadness. Tesis ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan film Triangle of Sadness sebagai artefak (sites) dan text untuk diteliti melalui interpretasi peneliti sebagai penonton. Menggunakan teori situational hierarchy sebagai kerangka konseptual yang dikemukakan oleh Sindzingre & Tricou dan interpretasi peneliti, tesis ini menemukan bahwa: (1) perubahan posisi hieraki sosial mulai dari hierarki konvergen, hierarki terbalik, dan hierarki setara yang terjadi secara situasional di antara para tokoh film Triangle of Sadness secara jelas memperlihatkan bagaimana hierarki sosial menopang kapitalisme dan menunjukkan mekanisme logika kapitalisme yang terus berjalan meresap ke dalam tatanan kehidupan masyarakat modern hingga saat ini; (2) serta mengandung unsur kebutuhan dan interseksionalitas, yang pada akhirnya memainkan peran penting mempengaruhi dinamika posisi hierarki sosial di era masyarakat modern. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa hierarki sosial menopang kapitalisme dengan cara bergantung pada hierarki yang terus berubah menyesuaikan dengan situasi, tetapi tetap mempertahankan dominasi dan ketimpangan. Hierarki yang beradaptasi menyesuaikan situasi ini tidak mengancam kapitalisme, melainkan membuatnya menjadi lebih fleksibel.

The logic of capitalism has shifted from classical capitalism in the industrial era to late capitalism in the modern era. Using the Popular Culture and World Politics (PCWP) approach, this thesis aims to analyze how social hierarchy and its transformations sustain capitalism and how this process is represented in the film Triangle of Sadness. This thesis uses a qualitative research method by using the film Triangle of Sadness as both an artifact (sites) and a text, which is examined through the researcher's interpretation as an audience. Using the situational hierarchy theory proposed by Sindzingre & Tricou as the conceptual framework, along with the researcher's interpretation, this thesis found that: (1) the situational changes in social hierarchy positions ranging from convergent hierarchy, inverted hierarchy, and equal hierarchy among the characters of the movie Triangle of Sadness clearly show how social hierarchy sustains capitalism and demonstrates the logic mechanism of capitalism that continues to permeate the life order of modern society until today; (2) and contains elements of needs and intersectionality, which play a crucial role in influencing the dynamics of changing social hierarchy positions in the era of modern society. The researcher concludes that social hierarchy sustains capitalism by relying on hierarchies that constantly change to adapt to the situation, but still maintain dominance and inequality. This situation adapting hierarchy does not threaten capitalism, but rather makes it more flexible.
