From Classroom to Cubicle: A Quantitative Study on Work Ethic's Impact on Work Readiness Among Final Year University Students in Indonesia

Lulusan pendidikan tinggi berkontribusi besar terhadap angka pengangguran di Indonesia. Mereka kesulitan untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan karena kurangnya kesiapan kerja dan tingginya ekspektasi pemberi kerja terhadap rekrutan mereka. Hal ini membuat topik kesiapan kerja mendesak untuk memastikan bahwa para mahasiswa siap kerja pasca kelulusan. Belum ada penelitian yang secara langsung menghubungkan kesiapan kerja dengan etos kerja sehingga menimbulkan urgensi untuk mengkaji lebih jauh hubungan kedua variabel tersebut. Melalui pendekatan kuantitatif, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh etos kerja, suatu sifat dalam aspek kecerdasan organisasi terhadap kesiapan kerja, terhadap kesiapan kerja pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir di Indonesia. Memanfaatkan Work Readiness Scale (WRS) dan Multidimensional Work Ethic Profile Short Form (MWEP-SF) berupa kuesioner online sebagai metode pengumpulan data, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjangkau cakupan partisipan yang lebih luas sebelum data kemudian dianalisis menggunakan regresi linier sederhana. Di hipotesiskan bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat etos kerja yang dimiliki seseorang maka ia akan siap bekerja.

Higher education graduates largely contribute to unemployment rates in Indonesia. Graduates struggle to secure employment due to their lack of work readiness and the high expectations employers set for their recruits. Investigating work readiness then becomes an urgent concern to understand the levels of work readiness among students graduating soon to ensure that they are work-ready post-graduation. There has not been any research directly linking work readiness to work ethic, hence creating an urgency to investigate further the relationship between the two variables. Through a quantitative approach, this research aims to investigate the influence of work ethic, a trait under the organizational acumen aspect of work readiness and another very important trait to possess, on work readiness among final-year university students in Indonesia. Utilizing the Work Readiness Scale (WRS) and Multidimensional Work Ethic Profile Short Form (MWEP-SF) in online questionnaires as a data collection method, this research aims to reach a larger scope of participants before data is analyzed using simple linear regression. It is expected that the higher the level of work ethic someone possesses, the more they will be ready for work.
