Filsafat modern telah mendaku dirinya sebagai yang patut untuk memberi tafsiran atas sains, dan menurutnya sains yang mengenai fenomena-fenomena fisik itu saja lah yang pantas disebut sains modern. Seyyed Hossein Nasr dan Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas merupakan dua tokoh sarjanawan serta metafisikawan Muslim saat ini yang memandang bahwa sains modern telah menjadikan keraguan sebagai dasar kesimpulan-kesimpulan umumnya. Karenanya, keduanya bersepakat untuk menjadikan metafisika sebagai landasan sains Islam. Karena sains Islam itu sendiri sepanjang sejarahnya, selalu berdasarkan prinsip-prinsip metafisika yang berasal dari otoritas yang kemudian diverifikasi oleh intuisi oleh para `?rif.

Penelitian ini berjudul “Landasan Metafisika Sains Islam dalam Filsafat Ilmu Seyyed Hossein Nasr dan Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas”. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisa filsafat ilmu serta menjelaskan makna metafisika Islam Seyyed Hossein Nasr dan Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas yang mengajukan sebuah metafisika untuk dijadikan sebagai fondasi sains Islam. Peneliti menggunakan model penelitian komparatif untuk menyelesaikan penelitian ini. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kefilsafatan yang menggunakan metode hermeneutika filosofis. Hasil akhir penelitian ini dipaparkan secara historis dan komparatif, serta sedikit evaluasi kritis, dan interpretatif.

Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah kesamaan pendapat Seyyed Hossein Nasr dan Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas bahwa metafisika merupakan ilmu sekaligus pandangan alam yang menjadi landasan sains Islam. Metafisika itu dilandasi oleh eksistensi sebagai entitas fundamental dengan Realitas Absolut sebagai eksistensi tertinggi. Metafisika Islam berhubungan erat dengan psikologi manusia, karena ia juga pandangan alam dari manusia. Dalam pandangan alam Islam, alam ini adalah simbol dari Realitas Absolut. Eksistensi alam hanyalah metafora yang menunjuk kepada makna hakiki. Untuk mengetahui makna, metafisika Islam memberikan sebuah metode yang disebut tafsir dan takwil.

Modern philosophy has claimed to be the one that should interpret science, and according to it, only the science that deals with physical phenomena should be called “science”. Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas are two Muslim scholars and metaphysicians today who consider that modern science has made doubt the basis of its general conclusions. Therefore, both of them agreed to make metaphysics as the foundation of Islamic science. For Islamic science itself throughout its history, has always been based on metaphysical principles derived from authority which were then verified by intuition of the `?rif.

This research is entitled "Metaphysical Foundation of Islamic Science in the Philosophy of Science of Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas". The aim of this research is to analyze the philosophy of science and explain the meaning of Islamic metaphysics’s Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas who proposed a metaphysics to be foundation of Islamic science. The researcher used a comparative research model to complete this study. This research is a philosophical research that uses a philosophical hermeneutic method. The final results of this study are presented historically and comparatively, as well as a little critical evaluation, and interpretation.

The result of this study is the common opinion of Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas that metaphysics is a knowledge and worldview that the foundation of Islamic science. Metaphysics is based on existence as a fundamental entity with Ultimate Reality as the highest existence. Islamic metaphysics is closely related to human psychology, because it is also a worldview of a man. In the Islamic worldview, all of reality is a symbol of Absolute Reality. The existence of nature is only a metaphor that denote to the true meaning. To find out the meaning, Islamic metaphysics provides a method called tafsir and takwil.
