Transplantasi ginjal adalah terapi pengganti ginjal terbaik untuk penderita penyakit ginjal tahap akhir (PGTA). Luaran kualitas hidup yang lebih baik, produktivitas dan pertumbuhan pasien dan lamanya waktu dan tingkat kesintasan yang lebih baik dibandingkan modalitas terapi pengganti ginjal lainnya. Data kesintasan organ cangkok berdasarkan laporan North American Pediatric Renal Transplant Cooperative Study (NAPRTCS) tahun 2012-2017 sebesar, 99,5% pada 1 tahun pertama, 97,2% pada tahun ke tiga dan 94,9% pada tahun ke lima dari donor hidup, sedangkan 97,6% pada tahun pertama, 94,4% pada tahun ke 3 dan 90,1% pada tahun ke lima dari donor mati. Tujuan transplantasi ginjal pada kelompok usia anak adalah pertumbuhan dan perkembangan yang optimal. Fungsi ginjal yang baik memberikan kesempatan anak untuk memiliki pilihan makanan lebih banyak dibandingkan saat pasien mengalami penyakit ginjal tahap akhir, hal ini memberikan pengalaman hidup seperti anak sehat kepada pasien pasca transplantasi.

Kidney transplantation is the best renal replacement therapy for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Outcomes such as improved quality of life, increased productivity and growth, and better survival rates and duration are superior compared to other renal replacement modalities. The graft survival data, based on the North American Pediatric Renal Transplant Cooperative Study (NAPRTCS) report from 2012-2017, show a survival rate of 99.5% in the first year, 97.2% in the third year, and 94.9% in the fifth year for living donors, while for deceased donors, the survival rates are 97.6% in the first year, 94.4% in the third year, and 90.1% in the fifth year. The goal of kidney transplantation in the pediatric population is to ensure optimal growth and development. Good renal function provides children with the opportunity to have a wider range of food choices compared to when they were in end-stage renal disease, offering them a life experience similar to that of healthy children post-transplant.
