Analysis of material requirements planning (MRP) implementation in the inventory control system of PT Air Mancur

Memanajemen operasi secara efektif dan efisien adalah salah satu kunci sukses untuk sebuah perusahaan dalam menghadapi persaingan global. Untuk dapat bertahan dan terus tumbuh dalam persaingan ini, perusahaan dituntut untuk membuat keputusan-keputusan yang tepat dan sesuai pada semua bidang. Keputusan-keputusan tersebut harus dibuat supaya bisa disesuaikan dengan situasi yang selalu berybah waktu demi waktu. Persaingan global menuntut perusahaan-perusahaan untuk meningkatkan prestasinya dengan membuat keputusan-keputusan yang tepat dalam perencanaan, pengoperasian dalam rangka meningkatkan efektifitas dan efisiensi mereka, dan memonitoring proses-proses operasi sebagai upaya agar tetap bisa bertahan dalam menghadapi persaingan global ini. Keputusan-keputusan mengenai perencanaan and pengendalian persediaan adalah salah satu keputusan penting yang harus diambil oleh suatu perusahaan. Perencanaan dan pengendalian persediaan harus dijalankan dengan baik, karena pengendalian adalah hal penting dalam proses operasi suatu perusahaan. Hal-hal tersebut berkaitan langsung dengan biaya-biaya dan kualitas dari produk-produk yang diproduksi oleh suatu perusahaan, dan berkaitan dengan upaya suatu perusahaan untuk memberikan kualitas pelayanan yang terbaik bagi pelanggan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui apakah PT. Air Mancur telah melakukan perencanaan dan pengendalian terhadap persediaannya secara optimal. Dari hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa sistem pengendalian pesediaan di perusahaan tersebut belum dilaksanakan secara baik. Peneliti mencoba untuk menggunakan sistem MRP sebagai salah satu pilihan untuk mengevaluasi jumlah dan waktu kebutuhan bahan baku dan permintaan produk. Berdasarkan perbandingan antara perhitungan MRP dan rencana perusahaan semula, dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa rencana perusahaan semula membutuhkan jumlah kebutuhan bahan baku yang lebih banyak terdapat banyaknya sisa persediaan di gudang. Hal ini akan menjadikan perusahaan menderita kerugian dari lebih banyaknya biaya yang harus dibebankan pada persediaan yang menumpuk dan akan mengurangi keunggulan bersaing perusahaan itu sendiri untuk dapat tetap bertahan dan tumbuh dalam persaingan yang ketat ini. Untuk mengaplikasikan sistem MRP dalam manajemen persediaan dari PT Air Mancur, terdapat tiga faktor yang harus digaris bawahi. Yaitu: faktor teknis, faktor proses – kemampuan dari semua karyawan yaitu sumber daya manusia secara menyeluruh, serta faktor dari dalam lingkungan itu sendiri – yaitu kemauan untuk berubah dan kepekaan terhadap situasi yang baru

Managing its operations effectively and efficiently is as one of the keys success for a company in facing the global competition. To survive and grow in this competition the companies are required to make the appropriate and right decisions in all subjects. The decisions must be taken in order to make the needed adjustment because of the situation that has changed from time to time. Global competition forces the companies to increase their performance by making good decisions in planning, operating in order to make the companies more effective and more efficient, and in monitoring the operations in order to survive from the competition. Decision about the company’s inventory planning and controlling is one of the important decisions must be taken into account. Inventory planning and controlling must be well handled, because this control is an important part for operating a company. It is also related to the amount of the costs and the quality of the goods which is produced by a company, and also to give better quality services to the customers. This research was conducted to examine whether PT. Air Mancur has already planned and controlled its inventories optimally. The research found that the existing inventory system of this company is not run well that orders in large quantity and when the inventory remains a lot in the warehouse. The researcher tried to use MRP system as one choice to evaluate the company’s needed materials and found out about how much the needed materials and when the order must be conducted. Based on the comparisons between the MRP calculation and the company actual plan, the research shows that the company’s existing system had higher level of inventories. The amount of inventories is much bigger than the company needed. It made the company suffered from too many costs that finally reduce the company’s competitive advantage to survive and grow in the intensive competition. To apply the MRP system in inventory management of PT Air Mancur, there are three factors for implementation that should be taken into account. They are technical factors, process factor - the capability and ability of people in company as human resources, and the inner environmental factors - including willingness to change and the conducive to the new situation.
