Ketersediaan data, baik yang berupa data sebaran spasial (peta) maupun data non spasial sangat diperlukan untuk menunjang perencanaan pembangunan dan pengembangan suatu daerah. Berbagai informasi fisik dan sosial ekonomi daerah yang bersangkutan, terlebih informasi yang sifatnya dinamis memerlukan sebuah sistem untuk pengumpulan, penyimpanan, penyajian dan peneelolaan. GIS (Geographic Information System) sebagai sistem yang berbasis komputer, mampu menghasilkan produk yang dapat memenuhi tuntutan tersebut. Salah satu produknya adalah atlas elektronik sumberdaya lahan untuk Kabupaten Bantui yang mengelola informasi fisik wilayah Bantul yang terdiri atas iklim, relief, tanah, geologi, hidrologi, vegetasi juga semua unsur lahan yang dapat digali oleh manusia dan kondisi sosial ekonomi daerah yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan perencanaan pengembangan daerah. Dalam pembuatan prototype atlas elektronik ini, digunakan beberapa peta tematik yang dipilih dan diasumsikan mampu membenkan gambaran kondisi fisik dan sosial ekonomi wilayah Bantul. Peta —peta tematik fisik maupun sosial ekonomi yang digunakan mempunyai skala 1 : 200.000, dilengkapi dengan data pendukung berupa foto obyek di lapangan beserta deskripsinya, data tabel dan data tekstual teori pendukung atlas elektronik. Prototype atlas elektronik yang dibuat berupa file yang dijalankan dengan perangkat lunak PC ArcView versi 3.2 yang dilengkapi dengan pemrograman berbahasa Avenue. Peneeunaan perangkat lunak ArcView akan menghasilkan tampilan data spasial dan database sehingga akan mempercepat dan mempermudah dalam memperoleh informasi dari data yang telah disediakan. Dari keadaan ArcView yang standard, dilakukan modifikasi/penyederhanaan pada menu, button, tool dan kotak dialog dalam bahasa Indonesia. Hal ini dilakukan melalui fasilitas customtze dan dtalog designer yang sudah disediakan oleh ArcView dan pemrograman Avenue untuk menjalankan semua fungsi dari sistem informasi yang terbentuk. Hasil akhir dari penelitian ini berupa prototype atau bentuk mula-mula dari suatu atlas elektronik dengan tampilan menu, button, tool dan kotak dialog sebagai penghubung interaksi user dengan sistem informasi dalam bahasa Indonesia. Fasilitas pendukung lainnya adalah visualisasi obyek-obyek tertenw di lapangan beserta deskripsinya, yang dapat diakses secara otomatis pada peta-peta yang disajikan didalam atlas tersebut. Keuntungan lain dari proiotype atlas elektronik ini adalah disediakannya fasilitas update data untuk mempermudah melakukan pembaharuan data sehingga informasi yang disajikan lebih akurat. Namun demikian, prototype yang sudah dibuat ini masih terbatas dalam pemakaiannya yaitu hanya dapat dioperasikan pada komputer yang dilengkapi program ArcView sehingga perlu dikembangkan lagi menjadi atlas elektronik yang lebih menarik dan interaktif yang dapat dioperasikan pada setiap komputer tanpa harus memiliki program-prog,ram tertentu.

The data availability, either the spatial data (map) or the non spatial one were extremely needed to support a regional development planning. All sorts of physical and socio-economical information to the region that may concern, especially the dynamic one needed a system for collecting, storing, presentation, and processing. Geographic Information System (GIS) as a computer basis system, was able to produce a product that could meet the need. One of its products was electronics atlas of land resources of Bantul region, that process the physical information of this region which consisted of climate, relief, soil, geology, vegetation and all of land element that might be discovered by human being and socio-economical condition of the region that needed to bring about the regional development planning. Within the electronic atlas production, used several chosen thematic maps and assumed that could describe the physical condition and social economic Bantul region. Both the physical and social economic thematic maps scaled 1 : 200.000, facilitated by supported data like the photography of the real objects in field as well as its description, table data and supporting textual data of the electronic atlas. The electronic atlas that made was in the form of files that operated with software named PC ArcView 3.2 version that equipped by Avenue based programming. The ArcView utilizing will result the fieuration of spatial data and database with the result that will accelerate and facilitate in ob•aining information from the available data. From the standard ArcView carried out modification or simplification to menu, button, tool and chalogue box in Indonesian. This case carried out through customize and dialogue designer facilities that equipped by ArcView and Avenue proeram to operate alI the functions from the information svstem that formed. The final result of this study was in form of prototype or at first form of an electronic atlas with appearance menu, button, tool and chalague box as the connection of user's interaction with information system in Indonesian. Other supporting facilities were the visualization of particular objects in field with their descriptions that could be automatically accessed in maps that set out in the atlas. Beside that, the electronic prototype atlas also equipped data updating facility to facilitate the data regeneration so that the information could be presented more accurate. Nevertheless, this prototype sti 11 restricted in its use that was could only operated in computer that facilitated with ArcView so that it need to be developed again become the more interesting and interactive electronic atlas that could be operated in every computer without any certain programs.
