Research on “Lifestyle Impulsive Buying in Terms of Thorstein Veblen's Leisure Class Theory” is motivated by the phenomenon of consumption in modern society which is increasingly influenced by lifestyle and the urge to show social status. This research uses the formal object, namely Thorstein Veblen's leisure class theory and the material object of lifestyle impulsive buying.
This research method is descriptive qualitative, which uses library data as research material. This research stage includes planning, data classification, data processing and data presentation. This research is a philosophical research that uses an actual problem approach model. So, in analyzing the results using methodical elements which include interpretation, internal coherence, historical continuity, description and critical reflection.
The results of this study are First, the phenomenon of lifestyle impulsive buying is a form of consumerism based on Thorstein Veblen's leisure class theory. Individuals who live in this modern era are driven by lifestyle and the desire to show social status. In the era of globalization and capitalism, a consumptive lifestyle is a means of expressing identity and improving self-image, especially in the upper and middle classes. Second, based on Thorstein Veblen's leisure class theory, the upper class is involved in conspicuous leisure and conspicuous consumption, which is a class that likes leisure time by buying luxury goods for their own use.
