Iniating the balanced scorecards in PT Citra Kendedes Pratama, Sidoarjo

As the pioneering taxi company in Sidoarjo, PT Citra Kendedes Pratama (CKP) has the opportunity to evolve into a major regional taxi company, especially in East Java.The evaluation has shown that in measuring the company’s performance, PT CKP has only focused on financial perspective, whereas the management has not yet determined the indicators of non financial measurement perspectives that constitute intangible assets.To cope with the shortcomings of the PT CKP’s performance measurement system, it is necessary to establish a more comprehensive and coherent performance measurement system, that is the Balanced Scorecards framework. Under this approach, performance measurement system of the PT CKP would comprise four perspectives, namely financial,customer, business/ internal process and learning and growth. The four perspectives have been design in such a way so that they comply with the vision, mission and strategy of the company.It was expected that the Balanced Scorecards could help PT CKP management emphasize a process view of operations, motivate its employees, and incorporate customers feedback into its operations. It also help develop a consensus on the necessity of creating deeper relationship with key customers. The writer sees the scorecard as an invaluable tool to help PT CKP ultimately achieve its mission: to be leading company in its target market. This initial design is only the first step that should be followed by other commitments and actions. Unless real resources are directed toward achieving these objectives, the objectives will remain distant goals, not tangible targets to which the organization is committed.
