Ruang Anti-Politik: Depolitisasi dalam Produksi Ruang Sosial di Universitas (Studi Kasus Coworking Space Sekretariat Mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Politik Universitas Gadjah Mada)

Akhir-akhir ini pembangunan ruang coworking space menjadi tren di perguruan tinggi, salah satunya di Universitas Gadjah Mada. Tren pembangunan coworking space tersebut masuk di ruang-ruang fakultas sosial humaniora.  Seperti pada tahun 2020 Fakultas Ekonomi Bisnis (FEB) membangun Digital Lounge, Offline Center for Technology & Observation Laboratory (OCTO Lab) dan Student Club Lounge. Kemudian Fakultas Filsafat mendirikan Archipelago Cafe. Di Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB) juga tengah membangun coworking space di perpustakaan FIB. Selanjutnya di Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Politik (FISIPOL) terdapat BRI Work, Digital Library, Digital Cafe dan coworking space Sekretariat Mahasiswa (Sekber). Justifikasi yang mendeterminasi adanya pembangunan ruang tersebut adalah untuk kepentingan kewirausahaan sosial, meningkatkan kreatifitas, inovasi, produktivitas dan kolaborasi antar mahasiswa.

Pada penelitian ini akan berfokus pada pembangunan coworking space di sekretariat mahasiswa FISIPOL. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah merefleksikan kembali secara kritis pembangunan coworking space yang banyak diterima apa adanya. Karena ruang tidak bisa di baca secara netral tetapi pembangunan ruang adalah persoalan politis. Kendati demikian, karena ruang membawa kepentingan politis akan mengakibatkan perubahan produksi ruang yang ber signifikansi terhadap dinamika sosial, kultural dan politik mahasiswa. Dampak tersebut dirasakan terutama mereka yang mempunyai ruang di sekretariat yaitu mahasiswa yang tergabung di Himpunan Mahasiswa Departemen (HMD) dan Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa Fakultas (UKMF).

Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode case study milik Gary Thomas untuk memberikan gambaran spesifik, kontekstual, terikat oleh waktu dan tempat, tidak harus generalisasi serta dapat membongkar perubahan produksi ruang pembangunan coworking space di sekre. Teknik pengumpulan data akan bertumpu pada kombinasi wawancara, observasi dan studi pustaka. Dengan pisau bedah teori Triad Space milik Henri Lefebvre menemukan tiga temuan utama. Pertama, HMD dan UKMF kehilangan ruang untuk aktivitas organisasional. Kedua, jargon-jargon kreatifitas, inovasi dan kolaborasi mewakili mahasiswa yang ingin mengembangkan ide kewirausahaan sosial tetapi tidak representatif bagi HMD dan UKMF. Ketiga, pembangunan coworking space dilakukan secara ahistoris dan telah melakukan depolitisasi terhadap mahasiswa karena mempersempit gerak aktivitas sosial, kultural dan politik HMD dan UKMF bahkan sampai mematikan beberapa organisasi. 

Recently, the construction of coworking spaces has become a trend in universities, one of which is at Gadjah Mada University. The trend of building coworking spaces has entered the social humanities faculty rooms.  As in 2020 the Faculty of Business Economics (FEB) built the Digital Lounge, Offline Center for Technology & Observation Laboratory (OCTO Lab) and Student Club Lounge. Then the Faculty of Philosophy established the Archipelago Cafe. The Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) is also building a coworking space in the FIB library. Furthermore, at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) there is BRI Work, Digital Library, Digital Cafe and coworking space Student Secretariat (Sekber). The justification that determines the construction of these spaces is for the benefit of social entrepreneurship, increasing creativity, innovation, productivity and collaboration between students.

This research will focus on the development of coworking spaces in the FISIPOL student secretariat. The purpose of this research is to critically reflect back on the development of coworking spaces that are widely accepted as is. Because space cannot be read neutrally but the construction of space is a political issue. Nevertheless, because space carries political interests, it will result in changes in the production of space that have significance for the social, cultural and political dynamics of students. The impact is felt especially by those who have space in the secretariat, namely students who are members of the Departmental Student Association (HMD) and the Faculty Student Activity Unit (UKMF).

This research uses Gary Thomas' case study method to provide a specific, contextual picture, bound by time and place, not necessarily generalization and can uncover changes in the production of coworking space development space in the secretariat. Data collection techniques will rely on a combination of interviews, observations and literature studies. Using Henri Lefebvre's Triad Space theory, found three main findings. First, HMD and UKMF are losing space for organizational activities. Second, the jargons of creativity, innovation and collaboration represent students who want to develop social entrepreneurship ideas but are not representative of HMD and UKMF. Third, the construction of coworking spaces is done a-historically and has depoliticized students because it narrows the social, cultural and political activities of HMD and UKMF and even kills some organizations.
