The decline in agricultural land quality has impacted food production, including lettuce. One of the efforts to address this issue is by utilizing alternative growing media as a substitute for soil. The research titled "The Growth Response and Yield of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) to the Composition of Cocopeat and Rice Husk Charcoal Growing Media" aimed to determine the effects of cocopeat and rice husk charcoal composition on lettuce growth and yield, as well as to assess and evaluate the use of these growing media compositions. The study was conducted at the Tridharma Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, located at Jalan Belibis No 593, Bantengan, Wonocatur, Banguntapan District, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, from February to April 2024. It was designed using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with one treatment factor, namely the growing media composition, which included six treatment levels: M0 (100 % soil), M1 (100 % cocopeat), M2 (75 % cocopeat : 25 % rice husk charcoal), M3 (50 % cocopeat : 50 % rice husk charcoal), M4 (25 % cocopeat : 75 % rice husk charcoal), and M5 (100 % rice husk charcoal). The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a 5 % level. The results showed that the composition of 75 % cocopeat : 25 % rice husk charcoal provided the highest consumption index for lettuce. However, in terms of other growth components and yield quality, the 100 % soil media remained superior.
