Indigenous beliefs in Indonesia still face discrimination both from
the government and the surrounding community and are categorized
differently from other religions in Indonesia. If we had to delay the
issue, we could see that the problem began during the BPUPKI session
when Indonesia was preparing for its independence. During the session,
there were many ideological debates that divided the BPUPKI committee
into two blocs: the Nationalist and Islamist. This research uses David
Easton's Political System Theory to analyze ideological debates. The
study found that the ideological debates occurred during the BPUPKI
session because both groups wanted a different and opposing state, and
many compromises were made to unite them. However, it is important to
note that the results of these compromises still serve as the basis for
the ongoing discrimination experienced by believers of indigenous
beliefs.
