The increasing traffic volume on the Semarang-Demak arterial road has caused significant congestion, leading to a growing need for more efficient infrastructure. The construction of the Semarang-Demak Toll Road is expected to improve connectivity and alleviate the issue of tidal flooding in the area. This project is divided into several sections, one of which is Section 1A, involving an elevated toll road. This research aims to evaluate the geometric design of the toll road in Section 1A by analyzing both the horizontal and vertical alignments. The evaluation is conducted using manual calculations based on the 2021 Bina Marga Standards and modeling with Civil 3D software, following the 2011 AASHTO standards.
The evaluation of 2 curves and 4 PVI’s along the 1.91 km effective road length indicates that most of the geometric designs meet the established standards, although some components require adjustments to improve the safety and comfort of road users. The parameters that do not meet the standards are Ls < ½ (6 seconds x Vr) and Lc < (6 seconds x Vr). The key considerations in determining the road’s geometric design include field conditions related to topography and the surrounding environment. Recommendations for improvements are proposed for aspects that do not comply with the standards, aiming to optimize the final design. Additionally, traffic signs and road markings are suggested to support service, comfort, and safety for drivers. This study is expected to contribute to better toll road design and development in the future.
