Tesis ini mengeksplorasi peran faktor budaya dan sosial ekonomi dalam membentuk ekosistem kewirausahaan, dengan fokus khusus pada akselerator di Afrika Timur. Studi ini menyoroti kesenjangan penelitian yang signifikan terkait program akselerator di konteks non-Barat, dengan tujuan memahami tantangan yang dihadapi oleh program-program ini dan bagaimana mereka beradaptasi dengan permintaan lokal. Menggunakan Kerangka Ekosistem Kewirausahaan (EEF) oleh Spigel (2017), penelitian ini menyelidiki atribut budaya, sosial, dan material yang memengaruhi lanskap kewirausahaan di Mombasa dan Nairobi, Kenya, serta Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Melalui 14 wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan personel kunci dari program akselerator di kota-kota tersebut, data dianalisis menggunakan perangkat lunak NVIVO dan Metode Gioia. Temuan penelitian menyoroti tantangan unik yang disebabkan oleh norma budaya lokal, pola pikir, dan keterbatasan sumber daya. Studi ini juga mengungkapkan strategi adaptif yang diterapkan oleh akselerator untuk meningkatkan kualitas program, termasuk bimbingan yang disesuaikan, proses rekrutmen yang komprehensif, dan kolaborasi ekosistem. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pemahaman yang lebih luas tentang ekosistem kewirausahaan global, menawarkan wawasan berharga bagi para akademisi dan praktisi yang ingin mendorong kewirausahaan dalam berbagai konteks budaya dan sosial ekonomi.

This thesis explores the role of cultural and socioeconomic factors in shaping entrepreneurial ecosystems, with a specific focus on accelerators in East Africa. The study addresses the significant research gap concerning accelerator programs in non-Western contexts, aiming to understand the challenges these programs face and how they adapt to local demands. Utilizing the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Framework (EEF) by Spigel (2017), this research investigates cultural, social, and material attributes influencing the entrepreneurial landscape in Mombasa and Nairobi, Kenya, as well as Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Through 14 semi-structured interviews with key personnel from accelerator programs in these cities, data were analyzed using NVIVO software and the Gioia Method. The findings highlight the unique challenges posed by local cultural norms, mindset, and resource limitations. The study reveals adaptive strategies employed by accelerators to enhance program quality, including tailored mentorship, comprehensive recruitment processes, and ecosystem collaboration. This research contributes to the broader understanding of global entrepreneurial ecosystems, offering valuable insights for both scholars and practitioners aiming to foster entrepreneurship in diverse cultural and socioeconomic settings.
