The Opak Fault is one of the active faults on the Java Island, specifically in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). The formation of this active fault is the result of subduction between the Eurasian Plate and the Indo-Australian Plate. The interaction between tectonic plates can lead to earthquakes. Therefore, Java is considered as an area with a high risk of seismic activity. One of the most powerful earthquakes that has occurred in Yogyakarta was the earthquake centred in Bantul, Yogyakarta on 27 May 2006 with a magnitude of 6.3Mw. This earthquake is suspected to have originated from the tectonic activity of the Opak Fault, which is divided into three segments: the northern segment, the southern segment, and the eastern segment. However, the activity level of the eastern segment of the Opak Fault is not yet known. Previous studies have examined the northern and southern segments, but the activity level of the eastern segment remains unknown. Therefore, continued research is necessary for earthquake disaster mitigation to minimize the impact of such disasters in the region. The research spans from 2020 to 2023, in line with the availability of monitoring data points in the eastern segment, to obtain the vector of displacement of the observation points.
This study utilizes GNSS campaign observation data from monitoring points EFZ1, EFZ2, EFZ3, EFZ4, OPK4, and OPK6. Data processing was conducted using GAMIT/GLOBK to obtain time series coordinate with reference to ITRF2014. The displacement velocity was calculated using Matlab Online software with the Linear Least Squares method and Sunda Block reduction. The displacement direction was analyzed based on the displacement values by calculating the azimuth values, including the East-West and North-South components.
The results of this study show the velocity and direction of displacement for each monitoring point in the eastern segment of the Opak Fault from 2020 to 2023. The displacement velocity values obtained ranged from 0.1 mm/year to 7.6 mm/year for the East component, 1.1 mm/year to 29.3 mm/year for the North component, and 4.8 mm/year to 58.6 mm/year for the Up component. The dominant azimuthal velocity vector indicated a displacement direction towards the east-southeast. The significance test results showed that all monitoring points experienced significant horizontal displacement, with only three points experiencing significant vertical displacement.
