The increase in building temperature due to exposure to sunlight will affect the external load on the building and subsequently affect thermal comfort. At a certain point, temperature and external load will cause thermal discomfort in the building. This research will simulate variations in WWR and their effects on external load and thermal comfort.
Three buildings representing the population density in Bantul, Yogyakarta, are simulated with variations in WWR from the smallest to the largest opening. The simulation is conducted using Rhinoceros software with the Grasshopper extension. The results allow comparison of external loads and thermal comfort for each WWR variation in each building model.
The results indicate that increasing the Window-to-Wall Ratio (WWR) from 0.1 to 0.9 results in an external building load increase, reaching up to 8.02 kWh/m2 at a WWR of 0.9, subsequently decreasing the thermal comfort within the house. From April to November, the thermal comfort of the three house models at each WWR variation tends to be higher compared to other months.
