The use of Indonesian in the West Sumatra region is colored by the
Minangkabau language, which in this research is called the Mindo language
(Minangkabau-Indonesia). Through social media, Minangkabau language as one of
the regional languages experiences a process of mutual influence on Indonesian.
This research aims to identify the phonological and lexical variations of the Mindo
language used by the people of West Sumatra in order to reveal the form, meaning
and influencing factors. The data source for this research is the speech of speakers
in social media videos. This research method is descriptive qualitative followed by
data collection with observation techniques in the form of videos uploaded on social
media YouTube and TikTok then followed by note-taking techniques. A total of 15
videos were collected as data sources. Data analysis techniques using data
reduction, data presentation, and conclusions or verification. The results showed
that in phonological interference there were 10 phoneme variation patterns with 21
variants. Then there are lexical interference monomorphemic and polymorphemic
forms, there are three forms of polymorphemic forms, namely affixation,
reduplication and composition. This research shows that this language variation
occurs due to pull factors, namely the attractiveness of Indonesian and prestige, and
push factors including lack of pronunciation, lack of appropriate equivalents in the
target language, and carryover of habits in the mother tongue.
