STUDI ADSORPSI ZAT WARNA METILEN BIRU MENGGUNAKAN SELULOSA TERMODIFIKASI POLIETILENIMINA (PEI) TERTAUT SILANG GLUTARALDEHID

Pada penelitian ini akan dilakukan studi adsorpsi zat warna metilen biru menggunakan selulosa termodifikasi polietilenimina tertaut silang glutaraldehid. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan sintesis adsorben, menentukan pH optimum, model isoterm serta kinetika adsorpsi metilen biru menggunakan adsorben selulosa-glutaraldehid-polietilenimina (S-GAL-PEI). Adsorben selulosa dibuat dengan mengisolasi dari ampas tebu melalui proses hidrolisis, delignifikasi, dan bleaching.

Adsorben S-GAL-PEI disintesis dengan menaut silangkan selulosa ampas tebu dengan polietilenimina menggunakan glutaraldehid sebagai agen penaut silangnya. Hasil dari sintesis dikarakterisasi menggunakan spektrofotometer FT-IR, SEM-EDX, dan XRD. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa adsorpsi terhadap zat warna metilen biru oleh adsorben S-GAL-PEI dilakukan pada pH 5 yang merupakan pH optimum. Adsorpsi zat warna metilen biru menggunakan adsorben S-GAL-PEI memiliki kapasitas maksimum sebesar 130,4 mg g-1 sedangkan waktu kontak optimum adsorpsi terjadi pada 250 menit. Adsorpsi zat warna metilen biru oleh adsorben S-GAL-PEI mengikuti model isoterm Freundlich (n = 2,080 dan KF = 0,678 L mol-1) dan model kinetika orde dua semu (k = 2,55 X 10-4 g mg-1 menit-1). Studi desoprsi menginformasikan bahwa larutan HCl 0,1 M merupakan larutan paling efektif untuk mendesorpsi zat warna metilen biru.

In this research, study on the adsorption of methylene blue dye using glutaraldehyde crosslinked polyethyleneimine modified cellulose will be carried out. This study aims to synthesize the adsorbent, determine the optimum pH of methylene blue adsorption, and determine the adsorption isotherm as kinetic model of methylene blue using cellulose-glutaraldehyde-polyethyleneimine (S-GAL-PEI) adsorbent. Cellulose adsorbent was prepared by isolating it from bagasse through hydrolysis, delignification, and bleaching processes. 

S-GAL-PEI adsorbent was synthesized by cross-linking bagasse cellulose with polyethyleneimine using glutaraldehyde as the cross-linking agent. The results of the synthesis were characterized using FT-IR and SEM-EDX. Adsorption of methylene blue dye by the S-GAL-PEI adsorbent was carried out at pH 5 which is the optimum pH. Adsorption of methylene blue dye using the S-GAL-PEI adsorbent has a maximum capacity of 130.4 mg g-1 while the optimum contact time for adsorption at 250 minutes. Adsorption of methylene blue dye by the S-GAL-PEI adsorbent followed the Freundlich isotherm model (n = 2.080 and KF = 0.678 L mol-1) and the pseudo second order kinetics model (k = 2,55 X 10-4 g mg-1 min -1). Desorption study informed that 0.1 M HCl solution was the most effective solution for desorption of methylene blue dye.
