The Impact of Revascularization Strategy Towards Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome.
Background: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a serious condition that affects a lot of person worldwide and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Revascularization with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a common treatment strategy for patient with ACS. However, even if the common treatment for ACS is revascularization, the major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) rate is still high, and the data about MACE post-revascularization in RSUP Dr. Sardjito is also limited.
Aims: the aim of this research is to find out whether revascularization strategy has a significant impact towards major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
Methods: This study is a cohort retrospective study, with the study subject being patient from RSUP Dr. Sardjito with a diagnosis of ACS, aged 18 years old or above. The data will be taken from the ICCU Science registry of Sardjito General Hospital. The variables in this study are mortality, cardiac related rehospitalization, and composite outcome. Patient’s baseline characteristics such as medical history, age, weight, pulse, etc will be described using SPSS. The impact of revascularization strategy towards major adverse cardiovascular event will be analyses using chi-square or fisher’s exact test.
Results: Among 412 patients with ACS, 332 patients underwent PCI while 80 were managed conservatively. It was found out that previous diagnosis of coronary heart disease was significantly higher in the PCI group (79%) compared to the conservative group (39%) (p<0 p=0,815 p=0,061) p=0,642 p=0,140)>
Conclusion: The findings in this study shows that percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) does not have a significant impact towards major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), in patient with acute coronary syndrome, when compared to conservative treatment.
