Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik butir soal tes seleksi masuk SLTPN 8 di Kotamadya Jogjakarta tahun ajaran 2001/2002 berdasar teori respons butir model logistik tiga parameter. Karakteristik butir soal berdasar teori respons butir model logistik tiga parameter meliputi tingkat kesukaran, daya beda, peluang menebak, dan kecocokan data dengan model. Ukuran sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 604 lembar jawaban. Keseluruhan lembar jawaban dianalisis secara teoretis dan empiris. Analisis teoretis meliputi analisis dari segi materi, konstruksi, dan bahasa. Lembar jawaban tes seleksi masuk secara empiris dianalisis dengan menggunakan program ASCAL. Butir soal yang cocok dengan model adalah butir soal yang memiliki nilai statistik chi kuadrat lebih kecil dari nilai chi kuadrat teoretis. Butir soal yang memiliki nilai statistik chi kuadrat melebihi nilai chi kuadrat teoretis perlu direvisi atau ditolak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan analisis teoretis ada 10 butir soal yang perlu direvisi. Secara empiris menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 60 butir soal yang dikategorikan sukar. Daya beda soal menunjukkan bahwa tidak semua butir soal mampu untuk membedakan kelompok peserta yang kemampuannya tinggi dan kelompok peserta yang kemampuannya rendah.. Adapun peluang tebakan pada tes seleksi masuk ini menunjukkan adanya 15 butir soal yang memiliki nilai lebih besar dari nilai yang telah ditetapkan. Kecocokan data dengan model dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya 21,11 % butir soal yang tidak cocok dengan model.

This study was aimed at examining characteristics of selection test SLTPN 8 in municipality of Jogjakarta academic year 2001/2002, based on item response theory.Characteristic item of selection test based on item response theory include difficulty level, discrimination, pseudo-chance level, and goodness of fit. The size of sample of the study were 604 answer sheet. All of the answer sheets were analyzed theoretically and empirically. The theoretical analysis included the point of view of material,construction, and language. The answer sheets of selection test were empirically analyzed using ASCAL program. The item which fit to the model are those having the statistic chi square value less than the theoretical chi square value. The item having the statistic chi square of more than the theoretic chi square value need to be revise or rejected. The results of the analysis that theoretically 10 of the existing items needed to be revised. The empirical indicated that there were60 items of selection test categorized difficult. The discrimination level indicated that all of items do not able to differentiate between the group of examinee which its ability is high and the group of examinee which its ability lower. Now, pseudo-guessing level of selection test indicated that 18 of the existing items having value more than decided value. The goodness of fit the study indicated that 20% of the existing items were not fit with the model.
