Penelitian ini berupaya mengungkap penyebab masyarakat nelayan di Kabupaten Natuna memilih untuk tidak terlalu aktif melaut saat musim utara. Argumentasi dieksplorasi menggunakan metode etnografi dengan observasi partisipan dan wawancara di Kabupaten Natuna selama 26 hari di bulan Oktober - November. Hasil penelitian mengemukakan bahwa alasan mereka tidak terlalu aktif melaut adalah mereka tetap teguh pendirian dalam menggunakan pompong berukuran kecil, yang dimana pompong tersebut kurang mampu bertahan untuk menerjang musim utara. Selain itu banyak ikan di pesisir saat musim utara membuat mereka tidak perlu aktif melaut seperti biasanya.

This research aims to uncover the reasons why fishermen in Natuna District choose not to be very active in fishing during the northern monsoon season. The argumentation is explored using ethnographic methods with participant observation and interviews conducted in Natuna District for 26 days in October - November. The research findings suggest that the reason they are not very active in fishing is that they remain steadfast in using small-sized boats, which are not capable of withstanding the northern monsoon. Additionally, the abundance of fish along the coast during the northern monsoon season makes it unnecessary for them to actively fish as usual.
