Pentagamavunon-5 (PGV-5) is one of the curcumin analog compounds with high antioxidant activity, which has the potential to be utilized as an active ingredient in sunscreens. Given the benefits inherent in this compound, this research aims to optimize stearic acid and liquid paraffin to obtain a sunscreen formulation with good physical properties and to maximize the protective effects of PGV-5 as the active ingredient.
The formula optimization was conducted by varying the concentrations of stearic acid and liquid paraffin. Optimization was carried out using the Simplex Lattice Design method in Design Expert version 13, followed by verification of the optimum formula and testing the physical properties and stability of the cream preparation. The obtained data were analyzed using the One-Sample t-Test with a confidence level of 95%, and IBM SPSS Statistics 26 was utilized to evaluate the physical stability of the formulation.
The results of this study revealed that the concentration of PGV-5 in the formulation at 0.25% yielded an SPF value of 40,25 for the PGV-5 cream, and 6,93 for the cream base. Based on stability testing, the post hoc test analysis indicated that there were no significant differences in the stability of the formulation across cycles 0, 1, 2, and 3, as the significance values were > 0,05. It can be concluded that the stability of the cream during the storage period is quite satisfactory.
