Evaluasi Stabilitas Pigmen Kuning dan Uji Aktivitas Sensor Kertas Terdeposit Ekstrak Kunyit sebagai Detektor Boraks Berbasis Kolorimetri

The paper sensor is a borax detection tool using the colorimetric principle. One natural ingredient that is widely used is turmeric extract. Turmeric extract contains curcumin which can interact with boric acid to form a reddish rosocyanin complex. However, curcumin is unstable and can be degraded resulting in decreased sensitivity of the test equipment. Until now, studies have only been limited to extracts stability, so this research was conducted to determine the stability of extracts formulated on paper substrates and its analytical performance during storage.
The research was carried out by testing the effect of temperature (25-31 °C and 4 °C), light (with and without aluminum foil), and air (with and without vacuum) on the stability of the paper sensor. The data obtained is in the form of colors whose intensity is quantified using ImageJ software. The research was completed by evaluating the extract using UV-Vis spectrophotometry and spectrofluorometry to determine the stability of the extract. The test was carried out for 2 months. Data analysis was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics software. The absorbance profile and fluorescence emission spectrum of the extract were also analyzed descriptively to assess the stability of the extract under optimum storage conditions.
The results showed that quantitatively turmeric extract experienced a decrease in the absorbance intensity by 10,48% and the intensity of fluorescence emission by 9,28?used by degradation in solvent. The results of the paired t-test and Wilcoxon test showed that storing the paper sensor at room temperature with exposure to light significantly reduced the intensity of the yellow pigment on the sensor (p<0>0, 05). The packaging system with the SR_DA_DV (90,0 – 104,3%) and SK_DA_DV (90,3 – 100,9%) designs was chosen as the best system that can maintained the analytical performance of the paper sensor for 2 months.
