Background Glioma is known as the most aggressive brain cancer in the United States of America. Estimated prevalence in Yogyakarta has reached 9.66% which is one of the highest prevalence of glioma in Indonesia. Inflammation markers can be used effectively to predict the progression of a disease. Fibrinogen and albumin ratio (FAR) is a novel parameter that can predict the progress of a disease. Nonetheless, the use of pre-surgery FAR in glioma patients has not been studied yet in Indonesia.
Methods This study was conducted in RSUP Sardjito, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Fibrinogen, albumin, and FAR were classified as low and high under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis after the cut-off had been determined. Then, the classification was used for the survival analysis using Kaplan-Meier and Cox-Regression.
Result Survival analysis showed that FAR is a better predictor (HR = 5,74; 95%CI = 2,43 – 13,56; cut-off = 0,068) in comparison to fibrinogen (HR = 4,67; 95%CI = 1,96 – 11,10; cut-off = 2,57 g/L) or albumin serum level alone (HR = 0,52; 95%CI = 0,29 – 0,93; cut-off = 42,4 g/L).
Conclusion FAR is a better predictor for the survival of glioma patients.
