The research focuses on the challenges and experiences of working mothers who face a double burden, particularly in urban areas. This research began with concerns about women's situation in public spaces, but it was not followed by significant cultural changes, which tend to limit women's gender roles. Using a phenomenological and critical feminist approach, the research aimed to explore and highlight women's experiences that traditional science has previously ignored. The research included seven working mothers from different educational backgrounds and social classes. Through their shared experiences, this research aims to offer a new perspective on the issue of the double burden on women, especially with the critical feminist paradigm of universal parenting put forward by Nancy Fraser. The research found that policies and approaches to promote gender equality and justice in Indonesia are still based on the assumption that the man is the sole breadwinner in the family. This assumption is no longer relevant, especially in urban areas. The research proposes a new perspective that encourages specific interventions in government policies to ensure a fair distribution of household and care work between men and women. Without such interventions, gender inequality will continue to worsen, particularly for women.
