Sleman Regency has an abundant level of wealth in the agricultural sector, especially in producing rice. However, there are currently changes in land use that could lead to a decrease in rice production. If not properly elaborated, this situation has the potential to create inequality in dealing with food sufficiency in the coming period. Efforts to meet the needs of areas for various activities such as trade, services, socio-cultural activities, and housing will have consequences on the use of land that was previously used for agriculture into land that has been built. The carrying capacity of agricultural land in realizing food independence and security is threatened. Therefore, the objectives of this research are (1) to assess agricultural land productivity to support food self-sufficiency in Sleman Regency; (2) to analyze environmental carrying capacity based on land capability for agricultural development in Sleman Regency; (3) to formulate environmental management strategies to increase agricultural land productivity to support food self-sufficiency in Sleman Regency. This research uses quantitative methods with a focus on regional analysis as the unit of analysis. The method of calculating soil carrying capacity adopts the land productivity level approach. The information is secondary data obtained from local government records, such as the Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Agency and the Sleman District Land and Spatial Planning Agency. To support food self-sufficiency in Sleman Regency, the sustainable agriculture strategy uses a qualitative approach that takes into account the causal relationships in the field. The results showed a decrease in the carrying capacity of agricultural land in most sub-districts in the Central Sleman Region between 2016-2021. In the Central Sleman Area, Depok Sub-district is an area classified as class III which is not able to be self-sufficient in food where this area is the center of the economy and is passed by the primary arterial road. The effect of the decrease in the carrying capacity of agricultural land also leads to the surrounding areas, most of the surrounding sub-districts also experienced a decrease in carrying capacity. Based on the analysis of the carrying capacity calculation, it can be seen that almost all sub-districts in each region have experienced a decrease in the carrying capacity class to class II and only Depok and Turi sub-districts are always in Class III. The decrease in carrying capacity that occurs can be overcome by the existence of RTRW and LP2B policies
