One of the main sources of human life in Indonesia is agriculture, and it is possible that a region's food security will be affected by the conversion of agricultural land. The aim of this research is to find out how farmers/community perceive the conversion of agricultural land, the components that influence it, and to study food security and how the perception of farmers/community regarding agricultural land conversion is related to food security conditions in Ubud District, Kab. Gianyar, Bali.
This study involved 828 farmers in Petulu Village in Ubud District, Gianyar District, Bali Province. Sample collection using the purposive sampling method which determined the number of samples using the Slovin method, obtained a sample of 89 respondents. Qualitative descriptive analysis is used as an analysis method, which includes primary data from questionnaires and then analyzed.
The results of the study in Petulu Village emerged that there was a perception of land conversion on agricultural land into community housing, factories, roads and so on. The perception of factors that influence the perception of land conversion in Petulu Village is GRDP, showing that GRDP is facing escalation, whereas the size of agriculture is facing shrinkage, this will shift land use from agricultural to non-agricultural. Perception of the population growth rate factor, which shows that the perception of a high population growth rate, shows that the perception of land conversion into housing and residence has increased rapidly. The perception is that the number of industries is always facing escalation, while the size of agriculture is facing shrinkage, as a result, there continues to be a large perception of land conversion taking place. The perception of micro factors, including the lack of residence, land sales figures, economic conditions and decreasing land production capacity, influences the change in use of agricultural land. To meet the food needs of the people of Petulu Village, the perception of food security must be in a decent condition. In other words, in Petulu Village the perception of food security is influenced by the perception of land conversion. Meanwhile, in Petulu Village, farmers perceive that food security can be achieved despite the reduction in agricultural land. This is due to support from the advanced tourism industry and emerging UMKM. The conversion of land to industry continues to have a positive impact on regional income.
