The morbidity and mortality rates among the elderly with Covid-19 cases, as well as those with comorbidities, contribute significantly to the total confirmed Covid-19 cases among the population in Indonesia. Covid-19 causes the elderly to be easily exposed due to their low health conditions, making them a vulnerable group whether they have comorbid diseases or not.
This study aims to analyze the morbidity of the elderly in Indonesia during Covid-19 and to examine the influence of factors on the morbidity of the elderly in Indonesia. The research area used in this study is Indonesia. The data source used in this study comes from secondary data from BPS in the form of raw data from the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) in March 2021 with a sample of 122,694 elderly.
The results of this study indicate that during Covid-19, the older the elderly become, the greater the percentage of those experiencing morbidity. Elderly females tend to suffer more morbidity, the higher the education level completed by the elderly, the smaller the percentage of those experiencing morbidity. Elderly individuals with employment status tend to suffer less morbidity. Among the elderly, those who do not smoke have a higher rate of illness compared to those who smoke. Elderly living alone tend to have a higher tendency to experience health problems compared to those who do not live alone, and the morbidity rate of the elderly in rural areas during Covid-19 is higher than that of the elderly in cities.
Meanwhile, the results of the analysis using binary logistic regression indicate that the variables of age, gender, level of education, employment status, smoking habits, living status, and classification of residential area are significant factors affecting the morbidity of the elderly during Covid-19.
