This research is conducted to understand and explore the venture creation process during the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic is a unique environment for ventures to emerge, mainly due to the massive scale and multifaceted impact on the world. The business landscape during the pandemic is considered an unfavorable economic condition; at the same time, entrepreneurship is also known to occur in such disruptive and disequilibrium conditions. The object of this research is individuals who started their businesses during the pandemic. The respondents for this research are individuals who recently experienced job displacement and created a venture after the displacement. The research is approached using qualitative methods where the data gathered is in primary form. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect the data, which then will be analyzed thematically.
The result of this study elaborated on the process of venture creation and displayed in a framework. There were four phases identified within their venture creation journey: Displacement, Pre-Launch, Launch, and Post-Launch. The displacement phase captures how the adverse events of job displacement and COVID-19 triggered individuals to step into the venture creation path. The pre-launch phase encompasses activities related to venture planning; it also shows how activities in the planning influence each other and are done simultaneously. The launch phase was primarily done through online selling using various social media platforms. In the post-launch phase, evaluations were shown to be done through customer input and own assessment in order for the ventures to adapt to the changing environment, mainly from COVID-19 regulation and customer demand.
Lastly, the study also found that the cases of NVC during COVID-19 happened promptly without planning and emphasizing the importance of actions.
