Peran Dukungan Sosial pada Harga Diri Remaja yang Menjalani Gap Year

Gap year adalah pengambilan jeda waktu antara sekolah menengah atas (SMA) dan perguruan tinggi negeri selama kurang lebih satu tahun. Di Indonesia, fenomena gap year masih belum banyak dibahas dalam penelitian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat peran dukungan sosial terhadap harga diri remaja selama menjalani masa gap year. Penelitian ini melibatkan 118 remaja berusia 18-21 tahun yang berpartisipasi melalui kuesioner online menggunakan Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) dan Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Hasil analisis regresi sederhana menunjukkan bahwa dukungan sosial tidak berperan terhadap harga diri remaja yang menjalani gap year. Namun, pada hasil analisis regresi berganda ditemukan bahwa dukungan sosial dari teman menjadi prediktor yang lebih mampu menjelaskan variansi harga diri remaja yang menjalani gap year dibandingkan dengan dukungan sosial dari keluarga dan significant other. Temuan ini menekankan pentingnya penelitian lebih lanjut dalam bidang ini dan kebutuhan untuk mengeksplorasi lebih dalam terkait remaja yang menjalani gap year.
The gap year is the taking of a break between high school (SMA) and state college, lasting for approximately one year. In Indonesia, the phenomenon of a gap year is still not widely discussed in research. The purpose of this research was to examine the role of social support in the self-esteem of teenagers during their gap year. The study involved 118 teenagers aged 18-21 who participated in an online questionnaire using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The results of simple regression analysis indicated that social support did not play a role in the self-esteem of teenagers undergoing a gap year. However, in the results of multiple regression analysis, it was found that social support from friends was a more effective predictor in explaining the variance in the self-esteem of teenagers undergoing a gap year compared to social support from family and significant others. These findings emphasize the importance of further research in this field and the need to explore more deeply the experiences of teenagers during their gap year.
