Justifikasi Sistem dalam Novel Never Let Me Go Karya Kazuo Ishiguro

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab mengapa para klon dalam novel Never Let Me Go tidak melawan sistem donasi opresif yang ada di dunia tersebut. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan teori justifikasi sistem. Hasil analisis menunjukkan ada setidaknya lima cara menjustifikasi sistem donasi tersebut, yaitu dengan adanya rasa kewajiban, tidak diakuinya masalah yang ada dalam sistem, berkembangnya rumor dan topik-topik tabu, stigmatisasi dan tindakan menyalahkan diri sendiri atau korban, serta proses legitimasi sistem. Selain itu, para klon tidak didorong oleh kebutuhan materi pribadi, tetapi oleh kebutuhan epistemic, existential, dan relational yang dapat dipenuhi dengan mendukung sistem yang ada.

This paper aims to answer why the clone characters in Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go do not rebel against the dystopian and oppressive donation system in their world. Analysis is conducted by using the system justification theory. The result finds that there are at least five social and psychological mechanisms for system justification, including the existence of a sense of duty, denial and minimization of system problems, the prevalence of rumors and taboos, stigmatization and self or victim blaming, and system legitimation. Furthermore, the clones may not be motivated by objective material self-interests, but by epistemic, existential, and relational needs that can be satisfied by justifying the current system.
