Food commodities are perishable products that can deteriorate at any time. This can be caused by improper handling combined with unfavorable environmental conditions for the intended handling of the commodities. Therefore, guidelines are needed for handling each commodity product. Good handling practices are a voluntary protocols applied to post-harvest products.
Quality engineering plays a role in improving the prolonged quality of food commodities, such as tropical fruits. Using robust design as a metric to create consistent quality in tropical fruits across various conditions by eliminating variations that affect their quality, optimization is then performed using a genetic algorithm approach with Evolver-Palisade Software to form the best generation.
Optimal solution for good handling practices is found by implementing highlevel conditions for variables 1 and 3, and low-level condition for variable 2, resulting in an optimal S/N Ratio of -1.92865E-15.
