Proyek Akhir ini membahas urgensi preservasi arsip film di Produksi Film Negara (PFN) Indonesia, terutama perlunya pengelolaan dan pemeliharaan secara fisik dari arsip-arsip yang dikelola PFN. Pembahasan urgensi preservasi juga mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis arsip film yang dimiliki oleh PFN dan tantangan pengelolaan yang dialami oleh PFN. Sebagai rumah produksi film yang sempat menjadi corong utama komunikasi pemerintah pada masyarakat, praktik pelestarian arsip film di PFN sangat penting dilakukan untuk menjamin kelangsungan akses pada salah satu koleksi warisan budaya Indonesia. Proyek Akhir ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan tiga teknik pengambilan data. Studi pustaka dilaksanakan melalui pencarian dan pembandingan informasi dari berbagai sumber serta agar dapat mengkaji topik umum Proyek Akhir ini. Wawancara dilakukan dengan pegawai ataupun pihak yang terlibat langsung dalam pengelolaan arsip film di PFN. Penulis juga melakukan observasi secara langsung untuk mengamati kegiatan pengelolaan arsip film di PFN. Proyek Akhir ini menemukan bahwa PFN memiliki berbagai jenis arsip film seluloid yang telah mengalami deteriorasi dan membutuhkan upaya perawatan dan perbaikan secara fisik. Akan tetapi, PFN memiliki sejumlah tantangan fundamental yang membatasi upaya mereka untuk dapat melakukan usaha preservasi terhadap arsip film yang ada, termasuk kurangnya sumber daya manusia yang dimiliki. Upaya preservasi arsip film di PFN mendesak untuk dilakukan mengingat pentingnya keberlangsungan akses informasi atas koleksi arsip-arsip film yang mereka miliki.

This final project discusses the urgency to preserve film archives at the Indonesian State Film Production (PFN), especially the need for management and physical care of the archives. The discussion of the urgency of preservation also identifies the types of film archives owned by PFN and the management challenges they experienced. As a film production house that was once acting as the main mouthpiece for government communication with the public, the practice of preserving film archives at PFN is very important to ensure continued access to one of Indonesia's cultural heritage resources. This final project uses qualitative methods with three data collection techniques. The literature reviews were carried out by searching and comparing information from various sources to examine the general topic of this final project. Interviews were conducted with employees and stakeholders directly involved in managing film archives at PFN. The author also made direct observations to observe film archives management activities at PFN. This final project found that PFN has various types of celluloid film archives that have been significantly deteriorating and require physical maintenance or conservation works. However, PFN faces several fundamental challenges that limit its efforts to preserve their collections, including a lack of human resources. It is therefore urgent to (start/conduct) (preservation and conservation works/preservation) of the film archives at PFN considering the importance of continued access to the collections.
