Rancang Bangun Casing Gasket Mount Mechanical Keyboard 75% Standard Layout Menggunakan Material Akrilik

The mechanical keyboard functions to convert typing movements into electrical input for computers or laptops. Based on its layout, there are several variations of mechanical keyboards such as 60%, 75%, ten key less (TKL), and others. Based on its mounting style, there are several variations f mechanical keyboard including tray mount, sandwich mount, plateless mount, integrated plate, and gasket mount. The main componenets of a mechanical keyboard include keycaps, switches, printed circuit board (PCB), and casing. Jutao et al., (2023) conducted research on the effects of lighting and keyswitch types on typing efficiency and user experience in mechanical keyboards by testing 33 participants to complete English typing task within two monutes using one keyboard. However, there has been no research on the mounting style of a mechanical keyboard, making research on the mounting style of mechanical keyboards intriguing. This includes the design of the structure, component manufacturing, and performance testing.
In this study, the design of a 75% standard layout mechanical keyboard with gasket mount type was carried out with configurations of six and eight gaskets using acrylic material. The components of the research object consist of keycaps, switches, stabilizers, plate, PCB, and casing. The plate and casing components are made of acrylic material. The plate component has holes for each switch and stabilizers according to the used PCB. The casing component has holes for USB ports on the side, secondary PCB adjusters, and on/off buttons on the bottom of the casing. These holes must be made accurately and precisely. Therefore, the chosen manufacturing method is laser cutting. The plate component that has been made includes six and eight gasket leafs. The casing component consist of layers of acrylic with thicknesses of (1.5) mm and (5) mm arranged to form a mechanical keyboard casing. This research object was designed, manufactured, and assembled gradually starting from the plate and casing component. Then, preliminary testing was conducted to ensure that the research object functions properly for future experimental studies to determine typing speed performance influenced by various independent variables in the research such as keyswitch types, keycap types, lighting effects, and various modifications of the mechanical keyboard components.
