Mangrove areas play a crucial role in supporting the sustainability of coastal ecosystems and providing livelihood resources for fishing communities. Pasir Village, located in a coastal area, possesses significant mangrove potential. The presence of mangroves is one of the important assets that provide significant economic and ecological benefits for fishermen, ensuring their livelihoods and the sustainability of fisheries resources. Understanding the assets and livelihood strategies of fishermen in mangrove areas is essential to ensure their well-being and environmental sustainability. Therefore, this research aims to identify the assets held by fishermen in the mangrove area of Pasir Village and the livelihood strategies they employ.
This research utilizes a descriptive research method with a quantitative approach on fishermen who are members of the Teguh Samudra Fisherfolk Group. Data were obtained through field observations and interviews using a census method with 20 fishermen as respondents. The collected data were analyzed descriptively to identify the assets held by the fishermen in the form of Pentagon Assets and the livelihood strategies they employ to utilize their assets.
The research findings indicate that the social asset condition of fishermen in Pasir Village has the highest value, scoring 83.85% and falling under the category of very good. It is followed by the physical asset with a score of 77.90%, the human asset with a score of 67.89%, and the natural asset with a score of 63.04%, all categorized as good. The financial asset is the lowest category held by the fishermen, scoring 54.04% and falling under the moderate category. The condition of assets owned by the fishermen influences their livelihood strategies. The fishermen in Pasir Village employ strategies such as survival, consolidation, and accumulation, supported by sub-strategies of intensification, diversification, social networking, and educational investment.
