HUBUNGAN AKTIVITAS MASYARAKAT TERHADAP DISTRIBUSI KOMODO (Varanus komodoensis) DAN SATWA MANGSA KOMODO DI TAMAN NASIONAL KOMODO DAN CAGAR ALAM WAE WUUL

Komodo adalah spesies endemik yang distribusinya terbatas di Pulau Flores, Pulau Rinca, Pulau Komodo, Pulau Padar dan Pulau Gilimotang, di Propinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur. International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) menetapkan Komodo dalam kategori genting pada Red List 2002. Tekanan masyarakat di sekitar Taman Nasional Komodo dan Cagar Alam Wae Wuul diindikasikan menurunkan populasi Komodo dan satwa mangsanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui distribusi Komodo, distribusi satwa mangsa Komodo dan distribusi aktivitas masyarakat setempat serta hubungan antara faktor tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan di empat lokasi, yaitu dua lokasi di Taman Nasional Komodo yaitu Kampung Komodo dan Kampung Kerora, dua lokasi di Cagar Alam Wae Wuul yaitu Kampung Warloka dan Kampung Cumbi. Data distribusi Komodo. satwa mangsa Komodo dan aktivitas masyarakat seternpat, diambil dengan menggunakan metode Continuous Strip Sampling. Hubungan antara aktivitas masyarakat setempat terhadap distribusi Komodo dan satwa mangsanya di uji . dengan Chi Square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hahwa Komodo, Babi hutan, Kera ekor panjang, satwa lainnya dan aktivitas masyarakat setempat distribusinya banyak dijumpai di sekitar pusat aktivitas masyarakat setempat, sedangkan Rusa dan Kerbau distibusinya banyak dijumpai jauh dari pusat aktivitas masyarakat sctempat. Aktivitas masyarakat setempat memiliki hubungan yang signifikan tcrhadap distribusi Komodo, dengan nilai probabilitas sebesar 0,014 di Kampung Komodo, Rusa 0,036 di Kampung Kerora, Babi hutan 0,040 di Kampung Komodo dan Kampung Warloka, Kera ekor panjang 0,015 di Kampung Kerora, Kerbau 0,009 di Kan1pung Kerora, Satwa lainnya 0,007 di Kampung Komodo dan 0,009 di Kampung Kerora.

Komodo dragon is an endemic species which is only distributed in certain location; Flores Island, Rinca Island, Komodo Island, Padar Island and Gilimotang Island, which in the Nusa Tenggara Timur Province. r nternational Union for Conservation of the Nature (IUCN) display has given status of Komodo dragon in the Red List 2002 as endangered species. The local community pressure in Komodo National Park and Wae Wuul Nature Reserve was indicated identify according to Komodo dragon population and prey. This research was done so as to knov. Komodo dragon distribution, prey distribution and local community activities distribution, within relation between these factor. This research was done in four locations; Komodo Village and Kerora Village, (Komodo National Park), Warloka Village and Cumbi Village (Wae Wuul Reserve). The distribution of Komodo dragon, prey and local community activity was taken by using Continuous Strip Sampling method. It's The relation of local community activities against Komodo dragon distribution and it's prey were tested by· Chi Square. The result showed that the distribution Komodo dragon, Wild boar, Long tailed macaque, Other animal and local community activities were around centre local community activity. While Deer and Water buffalo were distributed far from centre of local community activities. The local community activities have significant relation with Komodo dragon distribution, with probability value of 0,014 in Komodo Village, Deer of 0,036 in Kerora Village, Wild boar of 0,040 Komodo Village and Warloka Village, Long tailed macaque of 0,0 I 5 in Kerora Village, Water buffalo of 0,009 in Kerora Village, Other animal of 0,007 in Komodo Village and of 0,009 in Kerora Village.
