Kasus Whistleblowing Katharine Gun Ditinjau dari Perspektif Utilitarianisme John Stuart Mill

Skripsi berjudul Kasus Whistleblowing Katharine Gun Ditinjau dari Perspektif Utilitarianisme John Stuart Mill berlatar belakang untuk meneliti bagaimana pengaruh di dalam personal cost dengan tindakan whistleblower dan analisisnya melalui pemikiran utilitarianisme John Stuart Mill. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) Menjelaskan pengaruh personal cost terhadap tindak whistleblowing dalam kasus Katharine Gun dan 2) Menganalisis teori utilitarianisme John Stuart Mill terhadap pengaruh personal cost kepada tindak whistleblowing dalam kasus Katharine Gun.

Model penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian pustaka yang bersifat penelitian kualitatif. Penelitian ini akan dijalankan dengan mengumpulkan data dari sumber-sumber literatur. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian hermeneutika filosofis dengan unsur metodis antara lain: Deskripsi, Interpretasi, Koherensi, dan induksi. 

Hasil penelitian ini adalah: 1) Relasi antara personal cost dengan tindakan whistleblowing yang dilakukan oleh Katharine Gun. Gun melihat bahwa pekerjaannya sebagai jurnalis adalah mengedepankan kebenaran. Kathrine tidak menyerah dengan jabatan dan sebagainya; 2) Pemikiran Mill kemudian mengandaikan adanya kebebasan yang bertanggung jawab. Hal ini dapat dilihat di dalam personal cost yang menjadi batasan bagi seseorang. Kebebasan seseorang kemudian dibatasi oleh kepentingan organisasi. Hal ini kemudian dapat dilihat bahwa di dalam kasus Katharine Gun, terdapat kebebasan yang dimiliki oleh Katharine Gun sebagai individu, tetapi hal ini dibatasi oleh kebebasan organisasi yang menaunginya, yaitu Inggris.

The thesis entitled Katharine Gun's Whistleblowing Case Viewed from John Stuart Mill's Utilitarianism Perspective background is to examine how the dilemma in personal costs with whistleblower actions. This study aims to: 1) Explain the personal cost dilemma of whistleblowing in the Katharine Gun case and 2) Analyze John Stuart Mill's theory of utilitarianism on the influence of personal cost on whistleblowing in the Katharine Gun case.

The research model used in this research is library research which is qualitative research. This research will be carried out by collecting data from literature sources. The method used is the philosophical hermeneutic research method with methodical elements including: Description, Interpretation, Coherence, and induction.

The results of this study are: 1) The relationship between personal costs and the whistleblowing action carried out by Katharine Gun. Gun sees that his job as a journalist is to put forward the truth. He does not give up with positions and so on; 2) Mill's thought then presupposes the existence of responsible freedom. This can be seen in the personal cost which is a limit for someone. A person's freedom is then limited by the interests of the organization. It can then be seen that in the Katharine Gun case, there is freedom that Katharine Gun has as an individual, but this is limited by the freedom of the organization that houses her, namely the United States.
